In a notable development, the Best Tourism Villages by UN Tourism initiated a series of Online Informative Sessions in February. A total of six sessions were conducted in English, Spanish, French, and Arabic. The informative outreach garnered significant interest, drawing in 117 participants from our Member States.
During these sessions, the dedicated team members systematically guided participants through the nuanced 2024 candidature process. Offering a comprehensive understanding of the application procedures for the initiative’s fourth edition, these sessions served as a valuable resource, providing practical insights and crucial do’s and don’ts for potential applicants.
The application window for the 2024 edition officially opened on January 24 and is slated to remain accessible until April 24, 2024. The announcement of selected villages is anticipated in the third quarter of the year.
UN Tourism Member States are urged to submit up to eight candidate villages through their National Tourism Administrations (NTAs). The initiative has received approximately 600 applications from nearly 100 countries over the past three editions.
The Best Tourism Villages Network by UN Tourism currently stands as a global consortium with 186 members, comprising 129 recognized as Best Tourism Villages and 57 actively participating in the Upgrade Programme. This collaborative network represents 55 countries across five world regions.
For those contemplating participation, seize this opportunity to contribute to the advancement of sustainable tourism and community development.
