HIGHLIGHTS
-
Marine ecotourism
Grand Baie is promoting eco-friendly marine tourism through sustainable diving and snorkelling practices aimed at protecting coral reefs. The lagoon has designated swimming zones and navigable passages marked with buoys following international standards to minimize conflicts among users and improve safety at sea. Additionally, some recreational boats are equipped with electric engines, while others operate on solar power.
-
Digital platform
In collaboration with the private sector, the village is developing an online platform to enhance both local and international visibility. This digital platform will offer updates and information about the village and its available facilities. It will also serve as a review space where visitors can share their experiences and memories from their time in the village, providing real-time, authentic feedback on tourist satisfaction. Additionally, efforts are being made to improve virtual reality experiences and create interactive apps that offer immersive tours and detailed information about local attractions.

Environmental conservation
The local community is deeply concerned about environmental issues and sustainable development. In response, the villagers have established a coastal and environmental protection cluster, which includes the Beach Authority (the governing body responsible for beach management under Mauritian law), the Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change, the Ministry of Tourism, and the District Council of Riviere du Rempart. This collaborative effort aims to address the effects of climate change and other environmental impacts. The meetings will generate recommendations for the protection of the village’s natural resources, including beaches, wetlands, and coral reefs.
