The village’s innovative approach blends heritage preservation, sustainability, and community collaboration, making it a promising model for responsible tourism.

Preserving Heritage, Capturing Nature: Morcote's Pioneering Scientific Initiatives

In collaboration with the UNESCO Chair at the University of Lugano, the village initiates a Cultural/Sacred Buildings Analysis, unraveling the architectural significance, historical context, and spiritual aspects of its cultural heritage.  Complementing this, Morcote engages the lens of world-renowned nature photographer Heinz Plenge for a year-long project, the Biosphere Photographic Documentation. Plenge’s captures images, spanning all four seasons, meticulously showcasing Morcote’s dynamic natural landscape, encompassing animals, plants, and local culture. These visuals become invaluable resources, not just for research and education but as powerful advocates for the Biosphere’s significance. 

Morcote’s commitment to scientific documentation emerges as a guardian of its heritage and nature, deepening understanding, fostering appreciation, and underpinning sustainable management.

Morcote’s restoration efforts span open-air medicinal orchards, meadows, olive groves, and certified fruit orchards featuring endemic species, enriching the ancestral landscape and promoting the production of unique bio-products. This innovative approach not only safeguards biodiversity but positions Morcote as a trailblazer in responsible travel. 

 Visitors are invited into the heart of this conservation journey through a didactic, open-air museographic itinerary. This immersive experience allows them to delve into the intricacies of area regeneration, nutraceutical and biocosmetic production, and the symbiotic relationship between cultural and natural elements.
