Pyeongsa-ri is a literature-themed and ecological village surrounded by the U-shaped Jirisan Mountain and the beautiful Seomjingang River. The village was replicated after the setting from the Korean novel Toji \u201c<\/em>Land\u201d. The town recreated some settings from the novel for tourism development, including the traditional House of Choi Champan. The villagers created experiences by realizing and vitalizing literature-themed tourist sites where regional culture and history are kept alive. In addition, a range other cultural sites, including Pak Kyongni Literary Hall, Pyeongsa-ri Field, Pyeongsa-ri Park, Dongjeongho Marsh Eco Park, Gososeong County Park, Hansansa Temple, Starway Hadong, Cittaslow town, Hadong Toji Trail, Maeam Tea Museum, Jirisan Ecology Science Museum, Couple Pines, and Pyeongsa-ri Park were created.<\/p>

The village has initiated an innovative and ecological dumbeon<\/em>g \u201cfarming method\u201d so that elderly residents can benefit economically. Dumbeong refers to a traditional farming technique of creating a small reservoir next to rice paddies to store water for the dry season, control floods, and prevent cold-weather damage to rice paddies. The reservoir is also the habitat of local freshwater fish.<\/p>

The traditional tea agriculture in Hadong, that has been maintained for 1,200 years and is registered on the FAO\u2019s Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems list. This agricultural history has allowed the villagers to develop a carbon neutral greenbelt, an eco-friendly, and a self-sustained village.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The village has developed new tourism resources by replicating the setting from the novel of \u201cToji\u201d to promote and preserve the history and traditional culture. The village has established a smart tourism city (ICT-based tourism village), and an essential component of this includes integrating a well-designed platform. Hadong-gun is developing an application which offers a reservation and payment means for activity programs and accommodations as well as electronic tourist maps.<\/p>
