The<\/span> Commune<\/span> of<\/span> Pica <\/span>is<\/span> located<\/span> in <\/span>the<\/span> Tarapac\u00e1 <\/span>Region<\/span>. <\/span>It<\/span> is<\/span> part<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> 5 rural <\/span>communes<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> Tamarugal <\/span>Province<\/span>. <\/span>The<\/span> Commune<\/span> of<\/span> Pica <\/span>is<\/span> known<\/span> mainly<\/span> for<\/span> its<\/span> citrus <\/span>crops<\/span>, <\/span>the<\/span> most<\/span> famous<\/span> being<\/span> the<\/span> PICA LEMON, as <\/span>well<\/span> as in <\/span>the<\/span> past<\/span> its<\/span> vineyards<\/span>, <\/span>which<\/span> produced<\/span> some<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> best<\/span> port<\/span> wines<\/span> in <\/span>all<\/span> of<\/span> northern<\/span> Chile.\u00a0 <\/span>Large<\/span> extensions<\/span> of<\/span> crops<\/span> can be <\/span>seen<\/span> in <\/span>the<\/span> towns<\/span> of<\/span> Pica, Matilla, Valle de <\/span>Quisma<\/span> and <\/span>the<\/span> surrounding<\/span> area<\/span>, <\/span>such<\/span> as <\/span>lemon<\/span>, <\/span>orange<\/span>, <\/span>grapefruit<\/span>, mango, <\/span>guava<\/span> and in <\/span>the<\/span> mountain<\/span> villages<\/span> of<\/span> Cancosa<\/span> and <\/span>Lirima<\/span>, quinoa. <\/span>But<\/span> the<\/span> Commune<\/span> does<\/span> not<\/span> only<\/span> live<\/span> from<\/span> agriculture<\/span>, Rural <\/span>Tourism<\/span> is<\/span> making<\/span> its<\/span> way<\/span> strongly<\/span> as <\/span>one<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> main<\/span> economic<\/span> activities<\/span> along<\/span> with<\/span> agriculture<\/span>.\u00a0 <\/span>The<\/span> meaning<\/span> of<\/span> \u00abPICA\u00bb, \u00ab<\/span>Flower<\/span> in <\/span>the<\/span> Sand<\/span>\u00bb <\/span>is<\/span> a <\/span>designation<\/span> that<\/span> comes <\/span>from<\/span> a time <\/span>when<\/span> life<\/span>, <\/span>names<\/span>, <\/span>nature<\/span> and <\/span>gods<\/span> were<\/span> confused<\/span> in a <\/span>harmonious<\/span> and <\/span>flowing<\/span> whole<\/span>. <\/span>An<\/span> old<\/span> legend<\/span> of<\/span> this<\/span> region<\/span> tells<\/span> that<\/span> shortly<\/span> before<\/span> the<\/span> Spaniards<\/span> entered<\/span> the<\/span> land<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> Inca, <\/span>this<\/span> Oasis <\/span>was<\/span> one<\/span> of<\/span> their<\/span> favourite<\/span> places <\/span>for<\/span> rest<\/span> and <\/span>recreation<\/span>. <\/span>It<\/span> says<\/span> that<\/span> periodically<\/span> the<\/span> Son <\/span>of<\/span> the<\/span> Sun<\/span>, <\/span>with<\/span> his<\/span> Imperial <\/span>retinue<\/span> came<\/span> to<\/span> this<\/span> vegetable <\/span>island<\/span> in <\/span>the<\/span> Tarapaca<\/span> Desert<\/span>, <\/span>fleeing<\/span> from<\/span> the<\/span> steppe<\/span> winter<\/span>, <\/span>to<\/span> enjoy<\/span> its<\/span> eternal <\/span>summer<\/span>, <\/span>its<\/span> medicinal <\/span>thermal<\/span> springs<\/span> and exquisite <\/span>fruits<\/span>.\u00a0 <\/span>The<\/span> Church<\/span> of<\/span> Pica, <\/span>built<\/span> between<\/span> 1880 and 1886, <\/span>is<\/span> located<\/span> in <\/span>the<\/span> town<\/span> square<\/span> and has a <\/span>life-size<\/span> wooden<\/span> work<\/span> representing<\/span> the<\/span> Last<\/span> Supper<\/span>. And <\/span>the<\/span> church<\/span> and <\/span>bell<\/span> tower<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> village<\/span> of<\/span> Matilla are places <\/span>you<\/span> must<\/span> visit<\/span>. <\/span>Dinosaur<\/span> footprints<\/span> in <\/span>the<\/span> Rocky <\/span>Formation<\/span> Chacarilla <\/span>is<\/span> one<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> main<\/span> paleontological<\/span> sites in <\/span>the<\/span> country.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
